This must be assessed from the very first year of Spanish tax residency, ahead of the filing window: 1 January to 31 March of the following year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Property in Spain: The rules are not the same for expats in Spain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A common misconception among <strong>expats in Spain<\/strong> is that property here will be treated the same way it was before they left, or the same way it would be for any standard resident. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the special regime, that is not the case.
