In this interview with Gonzalo Gómez Luzón, second generation of the firm and a key figure in consolidating this exciting project, we gain a personal and professional perspective shaped by his extensive experience and commitment to excellence.
Accompanying Mr. Gonzalo Gómez Luzón, we explore the history of the firm, delve into its origins and founding values, and consider the future challenges facing professional practices.
What were the origins that led you to start this professional endeavor?
The company was founded by my father, Gonzalo Gómez, who established the practice and served as a labour inspector. I began my career alongside him as a Social Graduate, dedicating my professional path to the labour field.
What do you consider to be the main values that have guided your professional career and enabled the law firm’s consolidation?
The core of my career has been prioritising reconciliation and striving for fair, mutually beneficial solutions for everyone involved.
In my view, the core values are professionalism, honesty, and close client relationships.
During the eight years I served on the Governing Board of the College of Social Graduates of Valencia, I emphasised these principles.
How did you feel when your daughter decided to study law? What did it mean for her to join the law firm?
My daughter choosing to study law and wanting to practice alongside me was immensely exciting, both professionally and personally.
For any parent, seeing a child follow in their footsteps and continue their legacy is a source of great joy and pride.
For the firm, it meant a major enrichment and a definitive step toward growth.
We went from being a practice specialising in labour law to diversifying further into labour, tax, and fiscal areas.
How would you evaluate the years of practicing alongside your daughter, Sonia Gómez-Luzón García?
From every perspective, the experience has been positive, rewarding, and enriching.
My daughter’s receptive and responsible nature made our years of working together invaluable, creating a wonderful learning journey for both of us.
The family did not just grow within the firm; inevitably, as it expanded, more people joined the team. What has the team meant to you in your practice?
Indeed, the law firm grew organically, making it necessary to bring on additional staff.
For me, the team is the driving force behind professional practice.
The group of people who make up a firm is like a big family that understands and shares values and objectives.
It is management’s responsibility to communicate these principles.
Only if everyone is rowing in the same boat and the same direction can we reach a safe port.
How should the 2015 merger with the Delaguía firm, which led to the creation of Delaguía y Luzón, be interpreted?
This new step reflects the challenge of navigating an increasingly globalized and complex world.
Delaguía joined our law firm to support sustained, robust growth and to provide highly professional, specialised, and client-focused services.
What do you see as the biggest challenges now and in the future for professional law firms?
As mentioned, we are in an ever more globalised and technological world, which brings many advantages but also some significant challenges.
Growing competition, greater overall complexity, and the increasing intricacy of legal regulations make it essential to have strong, well-rounded, and specialised teams.
Cooperation among practices, mergers, or integration are tools that help us face these challenges.
On a more personal note, do you have a hobby that has complemented your career while also providing a break from professional life?
My main hobby, which I’ve pursued since my youth, is painting, especially watercolor.
Around our city of Valencia, we have beautiful landscapes bathed in extraordinary light.
The pleasant climate of our region lets me go outdoors and paint in nature for several months of the year.
I also work with my own photographic material.
Finally, after the career you’ve described, what aspects are you most proud of?
I am proud of the family I’ve built, who have always supported me.
I am also proud of the friends and colleagues I’ve gained, both personally and professionally.
I take pride in the fact that professionals who trained at our law firm have gone on to establish their own practices.
I have many reasons to feel happy and grateful, both personally and professionally.
Would you offer any advice to other professional firms?
I’m not one to give advice, but I can share what has been definitive in my professional experience.
Every era comes with its opportunities and challenges, and our current era is no exception.
However, at the heart of any professional law firm are the people and their principles.
A firm whose leadership sets an example, fosters cohesion, and knows how to define shared objectives and values is a law firm with a solid, strong, and motivated team.
I’d like to finish with a word I believe is fundamental to both professional success and life in general: loyalty.
